How the anti-Chen crowd perpetuates the hate

If you did something stupid or evil, would you videotape yourself and put it on the web?

Imagine someone who hates Taiwan's president Chen Shui-bian and his family, says that they are corrupt, and thinks that they and others who have similar ideas should be in jail. Imagine that the only person among them who has been formally charged with anything -- and just as importantly, not yet convicted -- is Chen's son-in-law.

The above may not be so difficult, as the pan-blue media continually tells us to hate these people. So let's take it a step further. Imagine, if you will, a father proudly teaching his 2-year-old daughter this kind of hatred. Can you?

It's not your imagination running away with you
Unfortunately, every bit of the above scenario is true, and you don't need to imagine it at all. The father has posted the video on YouTube to demonstrate how "even a 2-year-old" opposes President Chen. See for yourself.

00:23 YouTube video:
"Ting-ting topples Chen Shui-bian"

Translation: The father begins to say the names of political figures, including Chen Shui-bian, Lee Teng-hui, and Chen-haters Chen Wen-qian (Sisy Chen) and Jaw Shaw-kong, but he lets the daughter finish saying the last word of each name. The last name the father mentions is the president's son-in-law Chao Chien-ming. He then asks if Chao and a few others close to the president are corrupt. Each time, the daughter answers, "Yes." The father suggests, "Make them step down, okay?" and "Send them to jail, okay?" The daughter answers each question, "Okay!" The father's voice is cut off at the end as he says "Well done!" and it comes out sounding instead like the Mandarin equivalent of "Fuck!"

Family tradition?
Child abuse is said to be like an "infection" which "creates a downward spiral through generations, each victim more likely to infect more and more victims."

Did the father's parents teach him to be this way? Did he learn such behavior via pro-unification politicians? Is the media both the reflector and the director of such behavior?

If you discovered such a video of yourself as a child being programmed with such hatred, how would you feel toward your parents? Would you begin to question everything? Would you worry how it would impact your own children?

And what about the victims who have no idea that such abuse occurred -- what happens to them? Victims of emotional abuse tend to have "social, cognitive, and economic difficulties" when they grow up. How many among the anti-Chen crowd are the result of such emotional abuse?

Sadly this stuff does get passed down easily. I grew up in the mid-90s in a moderately blue household... every day I'd hear my folks ranting about how the DPP, Taidu, and LTH were ruining the nation, causing unrest... etc. Being an impressionable middle school kid at the time, I bought it all, hook line and sinker.

When Chen Shui-bian was elected mayor of Taipei, I was convinced it was the end of the world. I didn't start to question the family line of the KMT being all that was good and holy till a few years later around the time the KMT was launching protests against Chen's crackdowns on prostiution and illegal buildings. The sight of the party which I thought represented law and order flipping so easily led me to start rethinking my preconcieved notions. By 2000, I was supporting CSB for president.

This is what families do. For one, who else will listen to someone speak tirelessly and irrationally about any one issue. I sure as hell will have a daughter that spews anti Bush rhetoric like she is a semi-automatic machine gun (That is until she grows up and has a mind of her own, wishfull thinking maybe). Is that her fault? Would you think it was cute if I made a video asking her if George and Dick should hang on war crimes charges just because you may believe it's true and she bobbed her head and said yes to every charge I laid?

This guy obiously believes what he is saying is right, and thinks it is cute to have that young girl star in his anti-DPP video. I agree with you on most of this stuff but give it a break. It's actually a cute video.

Sure, and if you don't think too hard about 'em, chemical-tinted sunsets are "aesthetically pleasing." I have pulled back the curtain for you, yet you refuse to see. Tsk, tsk.

Just because they don't agree with you doesn't mean they're wrong man. And to draw an analogy between this and child abuse is just insane. If you have any kids, I wonder if they would be quirky having listened to a father that doesn't even know what planet he's living on. Hahah.

I don't want to start with you man, and I think this website is a good idea, AND I agree with political side you have taken but it's important in doing this to not just stuff the readers faces with one-sided crap that just won't hold up under the light ...or maybe that IS the purpose of this site. I thought it was like the news with a twist of pro DPP for the foreigner that likes Taiwan and enjoys being the underdog.

Anonymous, there's so much wrong with your last comment. Where should I begin?

How about from the very beginning?

Here's the first logical fallacy:
- - -
Just because they don't agree with you doesn't mean they're wrong man.
- - -

Which orifice did you pull that straw man out of? That's not my style of logic, and it's not what I did. You, however, go on to say this:
- - -
If you have any kids, I wonder if they would be quirky having listened to a father that doesn't even know what planet he's living on. Hahah.
- - -

You mean to tell me I'm not on Earth? Shocking, coming from a guy who hopes to brainwash his own child (from your previous comment: " I sure as hell will have a daughter that spews anti Bush rhetoric like she is a semi-automatic machine gun...") rather than teaching her deductive logic during her childhood.

Immediately following the outrageous attack above, you turn tail:
- - -
I don't want to start with you man...
- - -

Then don't. Simple as that. But you show the insincerity of your above statement by continuing to pull more things out of the same orifice:
- - -
I thought it was like the news with a twist of pro DPP for the foreigner that likes Taiwan and enjoys being the underdog.
- - -

This blog is "pro-democracy," not "pro DPP." If the DPP upholds democracy, excellent! We support those who merit support. If not, they get the same treatment.

For foreigners? Despite assisting those whose language abilities get in the way of understanding what's going on locally, it's not just "for foreigners."

Enjoys "being the underdog"? Not on your life! Democracy is about creating and maintaining a level playing field. Unfortunately, there are still many authoritarians around getting in the way of progress.

If you disagree with someone, try presenting facts/evidence and using logic to convince them otherwise.

Be sure to stay tuned to this blog (and my own) for a much longer piece on propaganda in Taiwan at some date in the (hopefully near) future.

The video really stunned me. How can a parent teach his own 2-year-old kid to hate??? What a sick father he is??? This is a very SAD video. God bless Taiwan!

The comments over at youtube are quite interesting.

They consist of:

"lol, the baby's cute"

"Very lovely oh, even child is overthrow-bian, oh, oh"

"smart kid!!!"

What caught me most was this exchange:

shame on this father, poor child, misery father. Taiwanese traitor. go back to china to be your barbarian and uncivilized chinese
Why dont't you this knucklehead father teach ur child how corrupted kmt is and how evil pan-blue is (include yourself)? u shamed urself to post this, stay in your booby hatch, don't come out and bark

He's not teaching his kid how to hate, on the contrary, he's teaching his kid not to break the law and if you do you shall go to jail. Also kvf069, are you even living in Taiwan? if you aren't then stfu cause you got no right whatsoever to tell those true Taiwanese to leave Taiwan. They are true Taiwanese that are brave enough to step up and ask the corrupted governemnt to resign. At last, Kvf069 is just a phony ass mofo pretends like he's Taiwanese while he's living overseas. Miserable fuk.

kvf069,u r utterly discomfited, this father just tell the truth. u have no courage to face the truth,u just live in ur own myth.shameless chen-shui-bian

or u know, but u just don't admit, because u r one of those souless piece of meat. are violence and filthy language always your way to show off how miserable u r? u just shame urself more by saying that. poor guy got brainwashed by evil and corrupted kmt, but dont know, no wonder how patheic and souless you are.

Hey kvf069, here's my suggestion: You should go buy a time machine from Doraemon and time travel to the past. ROFLMAO, this is year 2006 son, plus KMT also got what they deserved, their empire was thrown over by the people. At last, we are talking about corrupted president to resign, how does that has anything to do with KMT and taiwanese being killed. You can hide in ur own little room. Miserable fuck.

So I thought to reply with this:

I don't get how one could approve of what is happening in the video.

@richardwjwong: "He's not teaching his kid how to hate, on the contrary, he's teaching his kid not to break the law and if you do you shall go to jail."

Whatever you say man, whatever you say.

How is Chen shui-bian corrupt? I thought it was his son-in-law. Who would you like to replace him with? Which person out of all the likely presidential candidates do you actually think would be completely corrupt free?

I'd also like to point out that the video has a 4 star rating.

Hi Tim,

The article you cite when you say child abuse is like a virus is my article. I just wanted to let you know that the URL has changed. It was at http://www.therapistfinder.net/Child-Abuse/ when you cited it, but now it is at http://www.findcounseling.com/journal/child-abuse/.

This sort of this is just as nasty as brainwashing a child about religion. By corrupting the child's mind with that sort of nonsense, the parent is crippling their ability to perceive the world around them without huge amount of bias.
